Danish Sound History Collections
The three nominated
Danish Sound History Collections represent unique manifestations of social
and cultural life in the Danish - and Nordic - Society around the turn
of the century.
1. The Anker Kirkeby Collection was founded
in 1913 by the Danish journalist Anker Kirkeby, who recorded the voices
of famous artists, politicians, scientists... Later on, recordings of daily
life and special events were added.
2. The Ruben Collection belongs to the world's
oldest recordings.
3. The documentation on sound carriers and
obsolete playback devices illustrates the technological history of sound
