Objectives

Strengthen a network of rural radio stations in Honduras with a view to using the network to raise the level of information and education of the rural population of the country. Promote and enhance the production and exchange of locally-produced radio programmes on integration, human rights, tolerance and the culture of peace with a view to involving the rural population more actively in the democratic process at work in the country.

Activities

1. Develop an integrated programme of training in printed mass communication for various population groups in Guatemala.
2. Four seminar-workshops on printed media have been carried out. 208 journalists have been trained.
3. A handbook containing all the experience gained from the project to serve as a basis for similar initiatives has been prepared.
1. Undertake an analysis of the technical, organization, professional and administrative needs of the network of rural radio stations in Honduras.
2. Establish a central unit for production, training, programme distribution and advertising for the network.
3. Hold training workshops for network staff on news formats, microphone technique, dramatization, operation and maintenance of equipment.
4. Produce radio series and printed materials.
