Objectives

To stimulate overall development of the Iwokrama District in conjunction with that of the Iwokrama Rainforest Programme. Provide a medium for 2 way access of information between the interior and the coast. Foster economic and social upliftment through self-involvement and participation in community/nation building.

Activities

Establish a mutually agreed workplan with the national authorities of Guyana. Identify a local coordinator/trainer and determine choice of trainees; organize on-site technical and operational training. Procure and install equipment and materials and prepare contract for execution of project. Project proposal for further community media development with appropriate partners for extra-budgetary funding.

Optimize the contribution of journalists and media professionals to the education and development process. Increase levels of literacy and awareness of national development issues. Reinforce the existing infrastructure for media training in production to lead to permanent production capacity in the country.
