Introductory note
This is Module 6 of the ICT for Library and Information Professionals (ICTLIP) Training Package for Developing Countries. This Package is intended to provide knowledge and skills required to deal with the application of ICT to library and information services. It is meant for library and information personnel who may become trainers in the area. The Package has been developed by the UNESCO Asia & Pacific Regional Office with funding from the Japanese Fund in Trust for Communication and Information.
It contains six modules:

Module 3-Information Seeking in an Electronic Environment
Module 4-Database Design, and Information Storage and Retrieval
Module 5-The Internet as an Information Resource
Module 6-Web Page Concept and Design: Getting a Web Page Up and Running
Module 6 discusses the concepts and principles in web page creation and design, and introduces the basic steps in setting up and maintaining a web site.

Note: The content of Module 1 must be understood by all students (either by students first completing Module 1, or as a result of prior knowledge of ICT) before they proceed with the remaining five modules in the ICTLIP Training Package.

Learning Environment
The training room must have the facilities and technical support required to carry out the course. It should have computers with CD-ROM drives and online access to the Internet and other resources such as OPACs and CD-ROM databases. The Module should be conducted by a teacher who is knowledgeable and skilled in using computers, the Internet, CD-ROMs and a variety of electronic resources, and who is skilled in teaching courses of this nature. The Module is designed for a one-week course of 40 hours: 8 hours per day for five days.
