INTRODUCTION


The artistic creation in Africa has been and remains the true sensitive sign of the dynamic reality of its culture. Generally speaking, in the whole African continent art is defined by different styles varying according to the societies when keeping a common base on the functional aspect.

The traditional African Art object was often used to express values in order to explain the cosmogony of the universe. The traditional African Art as underlined by R. P. MVENG in his book called ''African Art and Handicraft'' (Edition CLE Yaounde 1980) is a large popular encyclopedia reflecting the wisdom of the past, the scientific knowledge, the concepts of humanity and universe, the religion, the everyday activities and trades, the games and the leisures, and above all story of humanity creating its immortality through ages.

So traditional arts in Africa are the basis of the understanding of people, of their customs and their traditions, in a word of the expression of their civilization. It is the language of traditional African societies and more particularly of black Africa; the expression spirituality, social organization and techniques shown in the masks, statues and all the traditional African art objects.
