CONCLUSION

Ainsi donc, l'art traditionnel africain qui plonge dans un passé aussi lointain

que possible dans le domaine de la sculpture, de la peinture, de l'architecture et

dans bien d'autres, donne à des époques très diverses des signes de vitalité

éclatante et devient ainsi une véritable source pour la compréhension des sociétés

africaines. C'est ce que témoignent ces spécimens du Musée National de Yaoundé et

du Musée des Bénédictins du Mont-Febe.

L'art africain n'est pas un art fantaisiste ni un art de I'imaginaire. C'est la

valeur éminente attachée à I'existence physique et au surnaturel qui lui confère

sa solidité‚ et sa vitalité.

Mais alors, le milieu traditionnel s'est transformé. L'art traditionnel africain

est passé dans une phase de transformation brutale, perdant ainsi la notion de

cosmogonie qui était son véritable fondement. L'art traditionnel qui persiste donc

continue à porter la conscience historique des sociétés africaines. C'est là son

grand message.

Lorsque les touristes visitent les pays d'Afrique et notamment I'Afrique Noire,

ils s'intéressent donc plus particulièrement à cet autre moyen d'expression des

peuples que constituent les arts traditionnels.

So, the various forms of African art taking deep roots from the very distant past. in the field of sculpture, as well as in painting, architecture or many other aspects of art give at all time high signs of vitality and therefore become the source of understanding of African societies. This is evident from the specimens found in the National Museum and the Benedictine Monks Museum in Mont-Febe, Yaounde

African art is neither fantastic nor imaginary. It is the eminenr value found to its physical existence and to the supernaturel, which award its own strenght and vitality. But, if we look back over the years, traditional art has known some changes from one era to the other. changes which at times were very brutal. and even loosing the very universal

phenomena which has lived on, has continued to carry forward the historic conscience of the African societies. That is its great message.
