Acknowledgment

The author wishes to acknowledge the contribution of colleagues who have been instrumental in the writing of this study. Michael D. Swift, Assistant National Archivist at the National Archives of Canada, first approached the author with the proposal of writing this study. John McDonald suggested a framework for the study and commented extensively on early drafts; Terry Cook challenged the author's assumptions and provided, as he always does, stimulating ideas and concepts; and David Enns has continued to share the vision that he and the author have about public programming in archives. Elsie Freeman Finch and Tim Ericson provided useful direction in their comments of the initial plan for the study. Finally, Yves Marcoux and his colleagues at the Canadian Centre for Information and Documentation on Archives, at the National Archives of Canada, supported the author's search for information in their usual efficient and comprehensive manner.
