Appeal for the reconstruction of the Library launched by Mr Federico Mayor,
Director-General of UNESCO. Call for Solidarity with the Librarians in Sarajevo launched conjointly with IFLA International fund-raising campaign initiated. Organization of consultations on the assistance programme with Mr Enes KUJUNDZIC, Director of the Library in Sarajevo. US $127.000 allotted , mainly for the purchase of reading and basic library office equipment. International purchase of reading material initiated. Shipment of books to Sarajevo according to UNESCO/UNHCR agreements initiated. Contract covering local purchase of reading material and basic library office material and the
establishment of acquisition programmes with the Library established. Organization of meetings of the International Expert Commission for the revival of the
Library in Sarajevo. Exhibition on the Library organized in Leipzig, Germany, from 17 to 20 March 1994 on the
occasion of the International Book Fair, and in UNESCO Headquarters, from 1 to 15 April 1994. Videofilm on the history and the destruction of the Library produced. IFLA membership of the Library and its participation in the ISBN and ISSN distribution initiated. Organization of an expert mission to Sarajevo (UNESCO staff members, library expert, representative of the Council of Europe), 14 to 18 June 1994. Provision of computer equipment for the Library. Detailed Library Development Plan under preparation. International co-ordination of various existing private, semi-private and public initiatives
for assistance to the NUB. Organization of fellowship and study-tours for Bosnian Librarians.
