THE OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSISTANCE

The main objective of UNESCO's assistance for the restoration of the Library, which is the symbol for the cultural, ethnic and religious pluralism of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is the opening of cultural, educational and scientific exchanges between Sarajevo and the international community. The activities are the following:

Organization of transportation of persons and material to and from Sarajevo
Establishment of the organizational infrastructure for the international assistance programme
Co-ordination of various existing private, semi-private and public initiatives for assistance to the Library
Assistance to the Library for resuming its fundamental functions by providing basic reading material (bibliographical tools, international literature, general reference material)
Assistance in the identification of temporary library premises
Development of a strategy for the reconstitution of the collections
Assistance in the provision of equipment
Training of personnel
