Storage in badly aired humid rooms (such as cellars) or flooding make documents damp which results in various kinds of damage. This example shows the spectrum of damage which results from water and the consequent attacks of microbes which find an ideal grazing pasture in the dampened documents. Cellulose and glue are decomposed, weakening the materials and resulting in the irretrievable destruction of the paper. Fungus and bacteria are indicated by various shades of colour.
