Guillermo Cano Isaza

Born in Bogota (Colombia) on August 12, 1925, Guillermo Cano Isaza was assassinated on December 17, 1986 in front of the building of El Espectador newspaper in Bogota - where he had served as the editor since the age of 27. Throughout his career, he was committed to freedom of expression. He also strongly advocated firm measures to be applied against drug traffickers. His assassination symbolises the price paid by journalists throughout the world to violence.
