2022 Training of trainers’ workshop for the European branch of the network of global facilitators in Intangible Cultural Heritage - Living Heritage and Education

The training of trainers’ workshop for UNESCO-trained facilitators from European countries is organized in the context of UNESCO’s global capacity-building programme for the effective implementation of the 2003 Convention, and is especially addressed to European members of the Convention’s global network of facilitators.
Living Heritage and Education

The facilitators’ network is a dedicated and competent partner for countries and stakeholders that seek guidance and training for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage. This network supports countries to safeguard intangible cultural heritage and harness its potential for sustainable development, while promoting broad public knowledge and support for the Convention.

This year, the 2022 edition of the Training of Trainers workshop for the European branch of the global network of facilitators in Intangible Cultural Heritage will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria from 17 to 19 October 2022, with a general theme on intangible cultural heritage and education. Specifically, the workshop aims to:

  • familiarize facilitators with training materials and the toolkit on integrating intangible cultural heritage into formal and non-formal education
  • share knowledge, practices, and tools in integrating living heritage into education across the region
  • strengthen the overall delivery capacity of the region’s branch of the facilitators’ network

This year’s Training of Trainers workshop will be held back-to-back with the 16th Annual Meeting of the South-East European Experts Network on Intangible Cultural Heritage, sharing the same general theme. With a joint reflection day scheduled for 19 October 2022, the two networks are brought together to foster a thorough exchange for greater integration of living heritage in education at all levels.

The meetings will be hosted by the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-East Europe under the auspices of UNESCO (based in Sofia, Bulgaria) and jointly organised in cooperation with UNESCO (UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, together with the UNESCO Living Heritage Entity).
