Celebrating Cambodia’s Teachers’ Leadership during COVID-19

This year, World Teachers’ Day national theme is “Smart Teachers for Digital Education”, which is in line with the international theme, “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”. The themes highlight the critical leadership role teachers played during the COVID-19 pandemic that affected nearly 1.6 billion learners and 63 million primary and secondary teachers in more than 190 countries.

In response to the pandemic, MoEYS announced school closures on 16 March 2020 and the launch of a continuous learning programme to ensure students continued to learn during the crisis. Within a short period of time, teachers had to adopt to new, challenging methods of teaching and learning – incorporating distance learning methods into their practice and making home-visits to students to ensure they continue to learn.

In celebration of the international theme, “Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future”, we asked a few Cambodian teachers about their experience teaching and leading during COVID-19.
