Director-General condemns killing of community radio technician Michel Hangi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
I condemn the killing of Michel Hangi and call on the authorities to conduct an investigation to identify its perpetrators. This crime must not go unpunished. Community media workers play an essential role in making information accessible for all. They must be able to carry out their work freely and in safe conditions.
Hangi, a radio technician for the Nyiragongo-based Soleil Levant community radio, was shot dead outside his workplace on 17 July in Nyiragongo in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
