Director-General condemns killing of journalist Gerardo Delgado in Ecuador

The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has denounced the killing of journalist Gerardo Delgado in the Ecuadoran province of Manabi on 10 August.
I condemn the killing of Gerardo Delgado. This is a ruthless attack on freedom of expression, and I call on the authorities to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Director of the digital television channel Ola Manta TV, Delgado was shot dead in his car in the presence of his young daughter, who survived the attack unharmed. 

UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
