Prime Minister of Iceland visits UNESCO on the occasion of COP21

On his visit to UNESCO, Mr. Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, Prime Minister of Iceland, met with UNESCO Director-General Ms. Irina Bokova and exchanged views on issues related to UNESCO’s work on climate change, on education and the use of ICTs to prevent violent extremism and radicalization, and the protection of cultural heritage.

The Director-General expressed appreciation for the visit of the Prime Minister and thanked him for his country’s strong and long-lasting support to UNESCO and its activities.

Prime Minister Davíð Gunnlaugsson congratulated the Director-General for the Organization’s continued and outstanding efforts in countering violent extremism and radicalization, particularly through education.

He further commended the Director-General for UNESCO’s substantial contribution to the COP21 climate change conference, referring to his country’s active involvement in disaster-risk prevention efforts, as well as in relation to renewable clean energy and geothermal energy.
