UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Yalitza Aparicio, meets with Mexico’s Field Office members

Since her designation as UNESCO’s Goodwill Ambassador, Yalitza Aparicio, Roma’s film leading actress, has been dealing with a tight up agenda. However, she took time on Monday to meet with Mexico`s Field Office team. The purpose of this was to design a joint strategic agenda that will begin with the Ambassador’s participation at the Closure of the International Year of Indigenous Languages 2019 in Mexico City (27th and 28th of February).


The meeting with UNESCO’s representative in Mexico, Frédéric Vacheron, and the coordinators of all five Sectors, concluded with the agreement to promote and help visibilize projects, which cross cutting objective is the development of indigenous communities (including preservation and revitalization of the biological, linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as the essential means for their protection.

At the end of the meeting, there was time left to share with all the members of Mexico’s Field Office. Some of the members even had the chance of take a selfie with the Ambassador, who kindly accepted the pictures, smiles and complements.


At the end of the visit, the Mexico`s Field Office team had the chance of taking a picture with the Ambassador. After that, the Office members said goodbye to Yalitza Aparicio with a round of applauses for her sympathy and naturalness, but mostly for the interest she expressed on supporting UNESCO’s projects, particularly those related to indigenous education, communication and the safeguard of the intangible cultural heritage (i.e. indigenous languages and traditional knowledge).
