On 20 May 2021, a national consultation meeting will take place online in Tashkent to discuss the draft policy document “National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2021-2030”.

It will bring together the representatives from the Islamic Development Bank (IsBD), the Ministry of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan, the UNESCO Tashkent Office, the Natural Sciences Sector of UNESCO Headquarters and a number of national and international stakeholders such as development partners and institutions.

The event is facilitated by the Islamic Development Bank, UNESCO Headquarters and the UNESCO Tashkent Office, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Innovation Development of Uzbekistan within the framework of the UNESCO-IsBD project on strengthening inclusive Science, Technology and Innovation System in Uzbekistan*.

During the meeting, key national institutions and partners will provide comments and feedback on the draft STI policy document.

The process of preparing the STI Policy was initiated in 2020 with the STI review of Uzbekistan in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovative Development and UNESCO under the abovementioned  project financed by the Islamic Development Bank. The publication “Mapping Research and Innovation in the Republic of Uzbekistan”, produced in English, Uzbek and Russian as a result of the STI system review in 2020, forms the basis of this policy.

The draft policy document serves as the foundation for achieving the STI objectives in Uzbekistan over the next ten years and considers STI as a tool to facilitate a successful recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.

Launch of the meeting: 15:00 - 17:00 (Tashkent time) on 20 May 2021.
