UNESCO to host inception workshop for ‘Community-focused Flood Early Warning System for the Buzi Pungwe and Save Transboundary River Basins Project’

An inception workshop for the Community-focused Flood Early Warning System for the Buzi Pungwe and Save (BuPuSa) Transboundary River Basins is set to take place in Harare, Zimbabwe on 8 March 2022.

The BuPuSa project which is funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) with funds of Austrian Development Cooperation seeks to reduce the vulnerability of communities in the Buzi, Pungwe and Save Basins to floods, by providing an effective flood risk assessment, monitoring and early warning system, increased capacity and knowledge base, and inclusive communication strategy and action plans.

Policymakers from the sectors related to the project, relevant government departments, and experts from local and international universities, development partners, NGOs, community representatives and private sector representatives are all invited to the workshop.

The workshop aims at introducing participants to the project and providing a platform to exchange information and learn from similar projects and initiatives taking place in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. An overview of the project will be given followed by a roundtable discussion on the project components and activities. The   workshop   will   take the hybrid format due to the Covid-19 set rules, which minimises the number of participants attending physically.
