UNESCO to launch Introduction to Groundwater Modelling online course

UNESCO will be launching the online course on Introduction to Groundwater Modelling on its openlearning platform on 1 February 2021. It is a self paced online course that shall run from 1 February 2021 to 31 March 2021. The course is targeted at people from RiverBasin Organizations (RBO), Intergovernmental Hydrology Programme (IHP) Committees and UNESCO National Comissions in the southern Africa region.

It will introduce the learners to regional groundwater modelling of the transnational Stampriet Aquifer System. It includes readings, video lectures, tutorials, knowledge checks and assignments. The course is comprised of 3 sessions with a duration of 4 hours each that progressively build on the complexity of the groundwater model, including Groundwater modelling of the Stampriet Aquifer System; Towards integrated land surface and groundwater modelling; and Further constraining the model with Remote Sensing.

This online course on Groundwater Modelling is part of the Governance of Groundwater Resources in Transboundary Aquifers (GGRETA) project Phase 3, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) whose objective is to strengthen regional stability, cooperation and peace through the establishment of cooperative frameworks for transboundary groundwater governance in River Basin Organizations (RBOs), Regional Commissions (RCs) and selected aquifers systems in Africa.
