To become a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, candidate cities must submit an application that clearly demonstrates their willingness, commitment, and capacity to effectively contribute to the Network’s mission and objectives.

The Network covers 7 creative fields: Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts and Music. They provide a thematic focus for member cities to develop their cultural and creative assets and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences with other member cities.

The member cities of the Network are committed to interchanging their experiences and expertise to achieve the common goals outlined in the UCCN Mission Statement. UNESCO Creative Cities are key partners of UNESCO for the local implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network is a longstanding commitment, which involves a participative process and a forward-looking approach. Candidate cities are required to present their cultural and creative assets and potential, as well as a realistic four-year action plan including specific projects, initiatives or policies to be implemented in the eventuality of designation.
