Call for Action to Accelerate Gender Equality in the Water Domain
The UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme WWAP facilitates a coordinated Call for Action CfA to accelerate the achievement of gender equality in the water domain together with a Multistakeholder Coalition composed by Member States institutions UN agencies international and regional organizations NGOs ODAs private sector and civil society Achieving gender equality in the water domain is crucial for the accomplishment of standing international gender and waterrelated commitments including those enshrined in the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development in particular SDG 5 and 6 and in numerous other international gender and waterrelated commitments   However an extensive analysis Taking Stock of Gender Equality Progress in the Water Domain carried out by WWAP and the dedicated Water and Gender Working Group has shown that progress towards the realization of these global promises is critically off track Gender inequalities have been shown to persist at all levels in the water domain thereby hindering development progress The key findings and concrete recommendations forming the basis for this Initiative have been presented in a collaborative Position Paper Accelerating Gender Equality in the Water Domain A Call for Action which is being supported by the members of the Multistakeholder Coalition Detailed information on the Initiatives background its objective how it works how to join it and the way forward can be found here Turning the tide of gender inequalities in the water domain requires ambitious objectives and bold and concrete actions of as many relevant actors as possible Therefore WWAP and the Multistakeholder Coalition welcome the support of other Member States and interested partners in this global advocacy initiative and encourage to advocate the development and implementation of genderinclusive strategies as well as catalyse and sustain transformative actions For further information and to join the Call for Action Initiative please contact waterandgendercallforactionunescoorg
