UNESCO Director-General highlights the Transcultura Programme as an initiative with economic and professional impact
On 29 June Audrey Azoulay DirectorGeneral of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO highlighted the impact capacity of the Transcultura Programme During the 209th session of the Organizations Executive Board Azoulay stated this is the economic and professional potential that we value like the Transcultura initiative financed by the European Union which seeks to build bridges between Cuban Caribbean and European cultures Transcultura Integrating Cuba the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity is a programme implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean officially launched during Ms Azoulays visit to Havana in December 2019 and funded by The European Union One of the objectives of the Programme is to strengthen the skills and capacities of young culture professionals through a system of scholarships that will be offered in the institutions of the Regional Cultural Training Hub one of its essential components The Hub will group prestigious Cuban academic institutions where young participants will attend courses in a wide range of subjects The expansion of employment opportunities the insertion in new markets or the discovery of spaces for cultural exchange are some of the ways the knowledge they acquire will impact their lives Support for the creation of incubators will be yet another Transcultura pillar In these spaces participants will be able to develop or upgrade projects linked to the creative and cultural industries that can boost their communities development The Programme which benefits 17 Caribbean countries seeks to harness the diversity and richness of Caribbean cultures as well as build bridges between peoples from different linguistic areas Opening remarks by the Director General Ms Audrey Azoulay at the opening of the 209th session of the Executive Board of the Organization 29 June 2020 AVAILABLE IN MULTILINGUAL VERSION ONLY WITH PARTS IN ENGLISH FRENCH AND SPANISH Photo © UNESCO HavanaH González UNESCO DirectorGeneral during her visit in December 2019 to the Santa Clara Convent an edification that is being restored to host one of the academic centres of the Transcultura Regional Cultural Training Hub
