Reimagining Our Futures Together in Cote d’Ivoire
As part of UNESCO support to the National Forum on Education and Literacy currently underway in Cote dIvoire the report of the International Commission for the Futures of Education was presented 9 and 10 February 2022 to HE Prime Minister Patrick Achi HE Minister of Education and of Literacy Mariatou Kone the senior management of the minister of education the chairs of the thematic education commissions as well as national and international development partners The vision and principles outlined in the Futures of Education report resonated with the main findings of the comparative analysis of educational development in Burkina Faso Ghana Malaysia South Korea and Vietnam which was also presented to the government and its partners Both the comparative study and the Futures of education report recall that while sufficient financial resources are required for inclusive and equitable educational development strong political will and broader societal engagement are key factors Both the comparative study and the Futures report also highlight the importance of revaluing the teaching profession and of protecting and strengthening schools as the foundations for broader educational ecosystems      Photo credit Primature par DRFrom left to right Minister of Education and literacy HE Mariatou Kone Prime Minister HE Patrick Achi Dimitri Sanga Director of UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office for West Africa in Dakar and Sobhi Tawil Director of Future of Learning and Innovation UNESCO Paris

Changing Course, Transforming Education in Bangladesh on International Day of Education 2022
On 24 January 2022 the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO BNCU and Secondary and Higher Education Division Ministry of Education MoE organized a discussion meeting to celebrate the fourth International Day of Education under the theme of Changing Course Transforming Education The discussion reveals transformations that have to be nurtured to realize everyones fundamental right to education and build more sustainable inclusive and peaceful futures The keynote presented by an eminent Journalist writer and educationist Mr Abdul Momen focuses on the transformation of education towards sustainable development including a resilient education system combating natural and manmade threats and emergencies towards the betterment of life as well as quality education The keynote speaker also presented several remarkable government initiatives to bring systematic changes for quality education such as the recently approved national competencybased curriculum framework and the Blended Education initiative The Deputy Minister of Education Mr Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury MP alerted that the digital divide is evident while maintaining learning continuity during the COVID19 pandemic He emphasized that the ministry needs to work with partners such as UNESCO in transforming education to address inequality and building knowledge societies through education The State Minister of Primary and Mass Education Mr MD Zkir Hossen MP acknowledged that IDE has created a platform to discuss education development and reform and that collective effort is crucial to achieving SDG4 targets

UNESCO Donate Personal Protective Equipment for Museums and World Heritage sites
UNESCO Addis Ababa Liaison Office in collaboration with the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas ALIPH offer personal protective equipment PPE and signage to be distributed to nine Ethiopia World Heritage sites and twentytwo government and private museums to support reopening of these cultural institutions affected by COVID pandemic On the occasion of the handover at the Ministry of Tourism UNESCO Director to AUC and ECA and Representative to Ethiopia Dr Yumiko Yokozeki expressed the longstanding cooperation between UNESCO and the Government of Ethiopia in the field of cultural and natural heritage protection through international solidarity The Director stressed that we are all partners in this vast undertaking which consists preserving and inspiring our heritage properties the diversity that we all together cherish HE Ambassador Nassise Chali Minister of Ethiopian Ministry of Tourism thanked UNESCO and underlined that cultural and natural heritages must be protected as a common good to be passed on to future generations Ethiopia is the cradle of humanity its cultural and natural wealth is immense said the Minister  We must make the most out of this wonderful potential with the right skills and stronger capacities we can harness the potential of heritage to create millions of decent jobs giving also a sense of dignity inclusion and pride UNESCO Addis Ababa Director and the Minister extended their appreciation and thanks to ALPH for providing the fund amounted to 13700 USD for PPEs including reusable masks gloves hand sanitizer liquid hand soap and signage having educational message Based in Geneva ALIPH is a nonprofit foundation with the status of an international organization that offers support to projects that protect and rehabilitate cultural heritage threatened or damaged by conflict For more contact the programme officer Getu Assefa at gassefaunescoorg For more on ALIPH visit their site httpswwwaliphfoundationorg
