UNESCO - EU Transcultura Programme extends until February 28 its Second Call for Applications for young Caribbean creative professionals
The Transcultura Programme Integrating Cuba the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity launched the Second Call for Applications to the Transcultura Scholarship Scheme in partnership with the University of West Indies Open Campus UWIOC It is a fully funded scheme supporting young artists and cultural professionals developing a career related to culture and creativity Candidates will have the opportunity to enroll in short capacitybuilding online and blended courses on Cultural and Creative Industries CCI offered by the Transcultura Regional Cultural Training Hub  The Call has been extended to February 28 2022 This Call for Applications round 2 offers free access to blended courses conducted by the UWIOC for young Caribbeans within the cultural and creative sector enabling them to manage and develop their business ideas and projects The blended courses are part of the Transcultura Course Catalogue     Small Business Management     Effective management and Leadership      Effective Business Communication      Grant Proposal Writing      Financial Monitoring and Evaluation     Project Management     Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation      Finance for NonFinance Manager     Sales and Marketing Management     Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management     Brand Management  The Transcultura training opportunities are designed in both facetoface and online formats primarily in physical centres in Havana but also through partner institutions like the University of the West Indies and its Open Campus However given the need to address and adapt the capacitybuilding component of the Programme there are currently implemented exclusively in an online and blended format With this initiative Transcultura aims to deepen cultural cooperation in the Caribbean and strengthen peopletopeople cooperation by empowering young women and men as agents for sustainable development through capacity building in the cultural and creative industries seeking to boost entrepreneurship and innovation foster cooperation in the arts and culture sector and create exchanges and networks to enhance complementarity and knowledge sharing Transcultura is a fouryear Programme funded by the European Union and implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean  Do not miss this outstanding opportunity to become a Transcultura Fellow  Learn more and apply here httpswwwopenuwiedutransculturascholarships

UNESCO Director-General highlights the Transcultura Programme as an initiative with economic and professional impact
On 29 June Audrey Azoulay DirectorGeneral of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO highlighted the impact capacity of the Transcultura Programme During the 209th session of the Organizations Executive Board Azoulay stated this is the economic and professional potential that we value like the Transcultura initiative financed by the European Union which seeks to build bridges between Cuban Caribbean and European cultures Transcultura Integrating Cuba the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity is a programme implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean officially launched during Ms Azoulays visit to Havana in December 2019 and funded by The European Union One of the objectives of the Programme is to strengthen the skills and capacities of young culture professionals through a system of scholarships that will be offered in the institutions of the Regional Cultural Training Hub one of its essential components The Hub will group prestigious Cuban academic institutions where young participants will attend courses in a wide range of subjects The expansion of employment opportunities the insertion in new markets or the discovery of spaces for cultural exchange are some of the ways the knowledge they acquire will impact their lives Support for the creation of incubators will be yet another Transcultura pillar In these spaces participants will be able to develop or upgrade projects linked to the creative and cultural industries that can boost their communities development The Programme which benefits 17 Caribbean countries seeks to harness the diversity and richness of Caribbean cultures as well as build bridges between peoples from different linguistic areas Opening remarks by the Director General Ms Audrey Azoulay at the opening of the 209th session of the Executive Board of the Organization 29 June 2020 AVAILABLE IN MULTILINGUAL VERSION ONLY WITH PARTS IN ENGLISH FRENCH AND SPANISH Photo © UNESCO HavanaH González UNESCO DirectorGeneral during her visit in December 2019 to the Santa Clara Convent an edification that is being restored to host one of the academic centres of the Transcultura Regional Cultural Training Hub

UNESCO convenes the ResiliArt-Transcultura debate with the participation of artists from the Dominican Republic and Haiti
The UNESCO Office in PortauPrince in collaboration with the Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean in Havana convenes a ResiliArtTranscultura debate in the framework of the International Decade for People of African Descent with the participation of artists from the Dominican Republic and Haiti Panellists will examine the massive impact of the COVID19 pandemic on their work and analyze possible solutions to improve the creative sectors resilience ResiliArt is a series of online debates with key professionals and artists in the industry both wellknown and emerging which seeks to raise awareness of the pandemics impact on the culture sector as well as the importance of the cultural and creative industries for economic development and social cohesion It also aims to support Member States in designing and developing financial policies and mechanisms that can help individuals and creative communities to overcome the current crisis The questions that will structure this debate are centred on themes relative to the artists work their commitments as creators the problems and challenges they face the concerns and questions that divide and unite people of African descent as well as issues related to the border migration confinement love and the Caribbean They will also discuss their means of production cultural distribution and circulation in the Caribbean in the present context and in general cooperation between the two countries as well as between the region and Europe For this debate artists networks and institutions from both countries will be invited to discuss the projects they are carrying out regarding people of African descent This debate takes place in the context of the Transcultura Programme implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean funded by the European Union which reaches artists from 17 CARICOM CARIFORUM and OECS Member States With Transcultura Cuba and its partners contribute to the development of the Caribbean and the cultural and creative industries of the countries in the region by building the capacities of young men and women professionals in the fields of art and culture The debate will take place on 6 August PortauPrince time on the Zoom platform and can be followed on the Facebook pages listed below httpswebfacebookcomUnescoHaitihttpswebfacebookcommaghaitihttpswebfacebookcomalterpressehttpswebfacebookcomloophaitihttpswebfacebookcomRTNH08httpswebfacebookcomrtvchaiti

Ministry of Culture of Cuba and UNESCO reaffirm collaboration ties
On Monday afternoon Alpidio Alonso Minister of Culture of Cuba held a fraternal meeting with Katherine MullerMarin Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean During the meeting they spoke of the preparations for the attendance of the MINCULT delegation to the 40th Session of the UNESCO General Conference to be held from 12 to 27 November in Paris the progress of the CubaCaribbeanEuropean Union Culture Programme promoted by the UNESCO Regional Office and the latest trends in the development of creative and cultural industries The meeting reaffirmed the excellent ties between the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO in particular with the Regional Office for Culture and the willingness of both institutions to continue to work jointly on Cubas development priorities Note News item prepared by the International Relations Division Ministry of Culture of Cuba MINCULT
