Ruraq Maki - Awajún Pottery (DPI)

Perú - Intangible Cultural Heritage for Sustainable Development

Perú

The pottery made by the Awajún women is the result of a set of knowledge and practices from an ancient tradition. Each creation is not only a complex and original combination of clays and resins extracted from the Amazon forest, but a representation of the cosmovision of this indigenous people, fundamental for the conservation and transmission of their practices and values, their memory and their identity.

The production of ceramics has contributed to the productive and economic development of the community, as well as to the sustainable management of the Amazonian natural resources.
