On 20 November 2008, on the celebration of the National Black Conscience Day, the Brazilian Federal Government received an important support for its preparation to integrate African Culture Education in the national curriculum. UNESCO Brasilia Office director, Vincent Defourny, presented a proposal document to the Minister of Education, Fernando Haddad, prepared in partnership with other eight organizations. The proposal is an implementation plan of the national curricular guidelines for the national law 10.639/2003, which turns mandatory the Ethnical Relations Education and the Teaching of Afro-Brazilian and African History and Culture in Brazilian basic education schools.
