Play Makes Us Human: Scenes from a sports day
Sports Day is a month away and two classes at Kaede Kindergarten in Hiroshima, Japan, are busy getting ready for a box-stacking competition that will be the highlight of the event.
This short film, which originally aired on Japan's Television Shin-Hiroshima System (TSS), documents both teams’ journey over the course of the month – their trials, triumphs and, most importantly, lessons learned along the way.
Teachers at the kindergarten embrace the type of child-centred, play-based and collaborative approach that is proven to be effective in early childhood care and education (ECCE).
This video is also part of the DVD Innovative Pedagogical Approaches in ECCE in the Asia-Pacific region (available here)
