UNESCO-PEER (Programme for Education for Emergencies and Reconstruction) began its existence in Mogadishu, Somalia, in January 1993. From its humble beginnings, UNESCO-PEER now has a strong regional presence in the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa, where it responds to emergency, conflict and post-conflict situations.
