NewGen Asia - Philippines Pilot: empowering YKAPs to lead change
The NewGen Asia Leadership Short Course is a five day course for young people who are from or working with key affected populations. The course was developed in partnership with young people, the UN system, civil society and academic institutions and is delivered by a team of technical experts from YouthLEAD, in consultation with technical and academic experts. In November 2011, 34 young people from around the Philippines came together in Rizal to pilot the newly developed NewGen Asia Leadership Short Course. The training was hosted by the Council for the Welfare of Children and supported by UNICEF Philippines in partnership with the Asia-Pacific Interagency Task Team on Young Key Affected Populations (IATTYKAP). It was attended by young people aged 15-24, from various youth networks and organisations from around the country and was facilitated by seven young trainers, coached by Dr Helen Cahill of the Youth Research Centre at the University of Melbourne.
