Buklog is an elaborate thanksgiving ritual system of the Subanen, involving several rituals. The ritual system is conducted to express gratitude to the spirits, ensuring harmony among community members and the human, natural and spiritual worlds. Rituals including dancing on an elevated wooden structure called the ‘Buklog’, which resonates with a sound believed to please the spirits, followed by a community dance to mark the renewal of relationships in the community. Though the Subanen have developed highly adaptive mechanisms to safeguard it, Buklog faces several severe interrelated threats and constraints that compromise its viability.
