Traditional Skills of Crafting and Playing Dotar
Language: Persian, subtitles English
The traditional skills of crafting and playing the Dotar – a folkloric plucked musical instrument with two strings – are one of the most prominent social and cultural components of the folkloric music of the ethnic groups and communities of the Dotar regions. Performers play the Dotar on key social and cultural occasions such as weddings and ritual ceremonies, as well as in festivals. When performing, players recount epic, historical, lyric and gnostic narrations that are central to their ethnic history, pride and identity.
