Memo from U.N, N.07 - Ideals in the Delta
In this memo from the United Nations by Ken Pittendrigh, UNESCO's fundamental education endeavours in the Middle East are discussed, with particular attention paid to those in Egypt. The narrator discusses UNESCO's Constitution and how the ideals expressed therein are translated into practical action, especially through fundamental education, which is defined by F. G. Leija of the Department of Education. The benefits of fundamental education to the Fellahin population in Egypt, such as those who live in the town of Fisha, are detailed. A clip from an interview with Youssef El Afifi, the director of the Fundamental Education Centre for the Arab States at Sirs-el-Layyan in Egypt, is also featured in this memo, in which Afifi discusses his personal history as it relates to his work.
