In 1955, Augusto Pi Sunyer of Venezuela was the recipient of the Kalinga Prize. The Kalinga Prize, funded by Biju Patnaik in 1951, is awarded each year to a member of the scientific community who demonstrates exceptional skill in disseminating scientific information to the public. Dr. Sunyer received the award for his work as a science popularizer.
