The secretary of the Australian Provincial Press Association and chairman of the Australian UNESCO Committee for Press, Ernest Lloyd Sommerlad, reviews the first International Conference on Training for Journalism, held at the UNESCO house. UNESCO recognized the key role of the press in public education and organized the conference between thirty journalism experts to discuss training methods from different countries. The purpose of the conference was not to alter the techniques of any country, but to provide recommendations and also give guidance to countries that recently gained their independent nationhood.
