UNESCO's Workers Exchange Programme
Language: English
Ms. Pepper Harris discusses the Workers Exchange Programme within UNESCO’s Exchange of Persons Service, a programme which operated from 1947-1960. Participants receive UNESCO travel grants which allow them to work temporarily in other countries. UNESCO believes the programme, which immerses people in different cultures, will create understanding between nations. In addition to workers, the programme supports youth leaders, researchers, and teachers travel abroad for various activities. This initiative commenced in 1952 through a collaboration between UNESCO and the International Labour Organization in Geneva. At the time of this recording, the programme, which began in Europe, was being introduced in Latin America and Asia.
