Cultural Broadcasting - Exchanging Ideas
Stanley Donner, representative of the National Association of Educational Broadcasters in the United States, describes a conference held at UNESCO House on cultural broadcasting. Senior radio producers from twelve-member states discussed significant areas of concern, such as the cultural level of radio programmes and their value to different groups of people. The representatives also addressed the imbalance between studies in humanities and sciences. While scientific studies are provided with sufficient attention and support, studies in humanities experience noticeable neglect. The goal of the conference was to encourage the creation and exchange of cultural broadcasts. The representatives see the exchange of cultural radio programmes as an opportunity to improve understanding between countries and foster tolerance and peace.
