Language: Japanese
Available in:»English»Français»Japanese»Deutsch

Composer Kunio Toda discusses music in Japan, with particular attention to the different kinds of music that are listened to by different audiences in the country. For example, Toda explains that while Western contemporary music is popular with many in Japan, and there are several symphony orchestras, there are also many people who are exclusively interested in traditional Japanese music. Toda emphasises that a variety of kinds of music are popular with different audiences in the country. The concept of East-West exchange is also discussed, and Toda says that while there is certainly great potential for this, the distance and costs of travel make it difficult to foster significant exchange for many.
