The UNESCO Primer

Language: English

Luther Evans, director-general of UNESCO, discusses the meaning behind the name UNESCO, as well as the organization and its activities for a younger audience. Evans can be heard practising the script for the recording, and repeats different parts of it multiples times after being given notes from an unnamed speaker, possibly Gerald Kean. Evans responds to a letter from a school-aged child that was sent to him at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. He emphasises the importance of learning about other parts of the world and fostering understanding across international boarders. He relates this lesson to his own experience as an American citizen living in Paris, France, and says that while he did not want to leave his home country, it was important to him that he leave to help support UNESCO.
