The United Kingdom Ratifies Universal Copyright Convention
This recording concerns the United Kingdom’s ratification of the Universal Copyright Convention, which was initially prepared at the Geneva Conference in 1952. The first speaker in the recording, a representative from the UK, notes that the Universal Copyright Convention is a useful contribution by UNESCO to causes which it was founded to promote, namely the encouragement of the international trade of ideas. The Director General of UNESCO, Luther Evans, responds, and applauds this ratification as a demonstration of the positive cooperation between UNESCO and the UK’s Government. Evans speaks to the importance of this convention for the protections it provides for creative projects, and expresses his appreciation for the head of the UK’s delegation to the Geneva Conference, the late Sir John Lucian Blake.
