Countering Conspiracy Theories with MIL: What you should know
"The Moon landings were faked." Have you ever come across this assertion? In this episode, we delve into the realm of conspiracy theories, exploring the intriguing connections between such theories and the phenomenon of “fake news”. Our aim is to provide clarity on the distinctions between conspiracy theories and disinformation and misinformation often called “fake news”. UNESCO discourage the use of the term “fake news” because it is contradictory, if it is fake, it cannot be news. Divina Frau-Meigs, professor, Sorbonne Nouvelle University, Dr. Tomas Duran, research director, Social Innovation Science Park, Minuto de Dios University Corporation - UNIMINUTO and Harald Gapski, head of research, Grimme-Institute will engage in discussions surrounding the nature of conspiracy theory. They will share compelling examples, offering explanations and analyses. The presenters highlight the real politics of conspiracy theories and examine how the principles of Media and Information Literacy come into play in addressing this specific type of misinformation.
