Nearly three quarters of all HIV carriers and almost 90% of the children infected with the virus live in Sub-Saharan Africa. Famine, international debt, underdevelopment, war and pandemics all make the right to healthcare difficult to provide. It is necessary that this right become a reality for the African people as it is in the west.

Life expectancy in Cameroon is less than 48, one of the major causes is HIV. 7% of women are HIV positive and hundreds of thousands of babies contract the virus during lactation, when the risk of infection is 30%.

The International Centre of Research Chantal Biya, in Yaounde, it's an Inter-African and International centre of excellence which has the mission of contributing to the eradication of HIV and Aids infections through scientific research, medical assistance and the diffusion of health information.

The centre was created thanks to a partnership between the Cameroon Ministry of Health, UNESCO, the World Foundation for Aids Research and Prevention of Prof. Luc Montagnier and Synergies Africaine contre le Sida.

This film is about Families First Africa, a project the Chantal Biya centre is currently working on. launched in 2002, Families First Africa was initiated by UNESCO along with the World Foundation for Aids Research and Prevention, the Institute of Human Virology at Maryland University in Baltimore, and Tor Vergata University in Rome.
