Cities are the shelters of humankind: by 2030, 70% of our planet's eight billion citizens will be city dwellers, and the remaining 30% will no doubt be somehow connected to urban networks. Development today entails the building of a global metropolis that will run through each town. In cultural terms, that requires appreciation of and for diversity. Every city, with its buildings, its populations, its functioning, is by nature a heritage of cultural diversity, a unique opportunity for cultivating a human community that charts its own development, respecting everyone and respected by all.
