Portrait of Sarah

Language: English

UNESCO Presents Portrait of Sarah, a dramatization of a true story about Sarah Bafa Adams, a Liberian girl who traveled around Liberia teaching about the work of the United Nations (UN). When she was young, she was sent to Washington, DC at the end of 1940 to receive schooling. Upon her return, she taught Secondary School in Monrovia, Liberia in 1944. She was sought out by UNESCO for one of six Travelling Fellowship positions to study teaching about the United Nations in various countries for six months. The other Fellowship representatives were from New Zealand, Pakistan, Egypt, Mexico, Iraq, and Liberia. Sarah was the only woman in the Travelling Fellowship team. This programme highlights how Sara noticed the shortcomings of a geography lesson at a school in the UK and advocated for more comprehensive lessons that included all nations.
