The Robāb (Iran), Rubāb (Tajikistan) or Rubob (Uzbekistan) is a short-necked string instrument that has been used in Central Asia for thousands of years. Made from apricot, mulberry or other woods, its shape varies within and across countries. It is played during holidays, gatherings, rituals and mourning ceremonies and is a leading instrument in traditional ensembles. This traditional instrument is an identifying factor for communities, promoting solidarity and cultural exchanges.
