Michel Batisse, coordinator of UNESCO's arid zone major project, describes international efforts made to reduce the destruction caused by desert locusts throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of India. These efforts include the creation of the Joint Desert Locust Ecological Survey, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and UNESCO.
