This is the recorded reading of UNESCO Director-General's appeal for the safeguarding of Nubian monuments in Egypt. The completion of the Aswan Dam threatened to flood the middle valley of the Nile River and destroy the Nubian structures located there. UNESCO's appeal was addressed to all governments, institutions, private organizations, and individuals of the world.
