Great Zimbabwe National Monument
The ruins of Great Zimbabwe are a remarkable testimony to the former might of the ancient kingdom that bore the same name. The greatest stone monument in Africa south of the Sahara, Great Zimbabwe was built between 1,200 and 1,500 A.D., long before foreigner penetrated into the continent. In the great stone enclosures, the famous bird sculptures were found, whose exact significance is still net known to scholars.
