Most of the people of Sierra Leone live in rural areas. Their life is difficult, and they are unable to produce enough rice to feed themselves and the rest of the country. To improve the quality of life and to help make primary education more relevant to the needs o the people, a pilot project was set up at a rural teacher-training college, bringing teachers and villagers together to develop a new curriculum, with stress on the practical and on self-help
