Cavalcade of Music - Programme 3: Songs from Eigth Countries
UNESCO presents Cavalcade of Music, a series of three programmes on the International Song and Dance Festival held at Biarritz, France and Pamplona, Spain. This is the third and last programme in the series, dedicated to songs from eight countries. There were 37 groups of musicians, dancers, and singers that participated in this festival delighted an audience of approximately 17,000 audience members.The songs included appear sonically in this order: Ciao Turin from Italy; a Bavarian yodeling song from the German Alpes; a Swiss yodeling from Switzerland; a song-dance from Indonesia; The Cuckoo and Going to Boston by Jean Ritchie Kentucky from the United States of America; Far From Home, an Irish Lament song sung by Kittie Gallagher; two songs from Nava, Spain; the singing of a Choir from Elizondo in the Spanish Pyrenees; a Serbian story-dance song; a Serbian ballet opening featuring choral work; and 30 dancers and musical accompaniment that make up the finale. The recordings were made by Jacques Ogus of UNESCO Radio at the International Song and Dance Festival organized by the International Folk Music Council at Bearritz in France and Pamplona in Spain.
